Shoot Basketballs Not People

What the organization has to say:
“When we look at success, we look at how we impact every kid that comes through our doors. We also want to create a family. Success for us is seeing those intergenerational pieces of our organization, whether that’s alumni coming back talking to our younger people, or our elders coming in and talking to our young people.”

What we found out:
The Shoot Basketballs Not People Program (SBNP) provides personal and professional development through sports. SBNP helps participants explore athletic opportunities and careers beyond the court. The program empowers youth to learn life lessons, envision their potential, and make positive changes within themselves and their communities. Other offerings include field trips, free sporting equipment, sneakers, and uniforms. SBNP’s free weekly sports programming is held at Germantown Friends School, every Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. SBNP summer camp is hosted at the Northeast High School from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekly. Summer camp, which costs $200, is for rising fifth through ninth graders.
